Domaine Roy & fils
Sixty-three acres across two AVAs, organically farmed, founded in 2012 by Marc-André Roy and Jared Etzel — whose fathers founded Beaux Frères together in 1991. The tasting room is the most architectural in this guide.
Two families, two generations. Robert Roy and Michael Etzel founded Beaux Frères together in 1991; their sons founded this in 2012. That inheritance is visible in the farming and audible in the way the wines are talked about.
The wine
Ask for Incline, the Yamhill-Carlton Pinot Noir — the 2024 is the current release. There is a Dundee Hills Incline too, but it has not been released since 2022, so the Yamhill-Carlton is the one to ask for by name.
Above it sit the two single-vineyard tiers: Iron Filbert in the Dundee Hills, where you will be standing, and Quartz Acorn in Yamhill-Carlton. Fifty-five acres of Pinot Noir, eight and a half of Chardonnay. Winemaking is guided by the Frescobaldi family, which is why there is an Italian pantry alongside the wine.
Who it is for
Luxury, and architecture that brings you into a decadent experience while you taste. The room is beautiful, the views are stunning, and the wines carry an old-world feeling that is rarer here than people claim.
Who would find it wrong: anyone wanting a down-home farm feel. This is heightened and deliberate, and it is not pretending otherwise. If you want the farm, Airlie or Evesham Wood will suit you better.
What to expect
Reservations only, through Tock, parties of one to eight. Open daily from eleven, with the last booking at four. They do not publish the tasting fee anywhere — not on the site, not in the FAQ, not on Tock — so ask when you book. Jacopo Canciani makes the wine.
A beautiful tasting room, stunning views and more beautiful wines. It reminds you of the old world.
